Red Velvet's Joy will likely return to acting after two years.
On June 7, several media outlets shared that Joy will be joining Kim Hye-eun in the upcoming K-drama The Year We Turned 29. Kim Hye-eun received her first acting offer in 2022 and is still reviewing it.
Meanwhile, Joy's agency SM Entertainment also responded to the casting news circulating. According to the agency, “Joey has received an offer to star in the film The Year We Turned 29 and she is reviewing it favorably.”
Joy was last seen in the 2022 K-drama Once Upon a Small Town where she acted alongside Cho Young Woo, Baek Sung Chul, Jung Suk Young, Noh Jae Won, and Park Ye Ni.
The idol began her acting career in 2017. She has led the K-dramas The Liar and His Lover, Tempted, The One and Only, and more.
Before Joy returns to acting, she will first actively join Red Velvet's upcoming summer comeback. The group will release a new mini album before the end of the month. Red Velvet will also celebrate their 10th anniversary this year.
The Year We Turned 29 will tell the stories of three people with the same name and age. The K-drama will show how they will face different life crises such as love, work, exams and more before they reach the age of 30. Its story will be based on the popular Naver webtoon of the same name.
According to reports, Joy was offered to play the role of Cha Woo Ri, an aggressive and cold flight attendant.
The Year We Turned 29 is scheduled to premiere on Kim Hyo-eun in 2022. The production of the K-drama has been delayed and is about to be cancelled. However, given Kim Hyo Eun's popularity these days thanks to Lovely Runner, the people behind the new series are reportedly discussing producing The Year We Turned 29 again. It was also reported that the production team is working hard to cast Kim Hyo Yeon and Red Velvet Joy as the leads of the K-drama.
The upcoming Korean drama will reportedly be broadcast on MBC.
