“The Point Men” also known as “Bargaining” emerged as a hit film in South Korea with over one million moviegoers in just seven days of its release. According to the Film Promotion Committee, the action film exceeded 1,023,232 sales on January 24 and dominated theaters during the Lunar New Year holiday, thus earning a place on the list of 2023 box office hits.
The film stars South Korean superstar Hyun Bin, diversity creator Hwang Jung-min, and veteran actor Kang Ki-young, among others.
Although the film took creative license for dramatic effects, "The Point Men" is based on a true incident that occurred in 2007. When the Taliban kidnap a group of Christian missionaries in Afghanistan, a skilled Korean diplomat and a special agent team up. Team up to rescue the hostages.
Hyun Bin plays Park Dae Sik - a National Intelligence (NIS) agent who specializes in the Middle East. It appears as a combat-savvy hero, and portrays a character who has overcome the trauma of failing to rescue hostages in Iraq in the past.
Hwang Jung-min stars as Jung Jae-ho, a South Korean diplomat determined to rescue the hostages at any cost. Jung Min and Hyun Bin, who are good friends in real life, are seen entertaining the audience with their strong friendship.
While Kang Ki Young takes on the role of Kasim/Lee Bong Han - a local translator in Afghanistan of Korean origin. The talented actor as usual dazzles the audience with his acting chops and unique charm that draws us into his character. We will also see Ki Young speaking Pashto and Dari - the local languages of Afghanistan.
Aside from the tense plot and charismatic characters, viewers will also be able to see the stunning views of Jordan where the film was filmed.
